OVERVIEW

DJ Hova is an open-format DJ based in the Greater New York City area, associated with the Get Down DJ Group. From the bangers of the past, to the heaters of the present, Hova is known to bless the dance floor with tons of genres over the course of the night.

Amongst his favorite DJs/Producers are Martin Garrix, John Summit, Dom Dolla, Mau P, Tchami, Meduza, Eli Brown, SHM and Avicii.

He currently holds a residency at Wicked Wolf in Hoboken, NJ. Hova co-hosts the 18th & Ocean Mix Show as well as the Rollin’ On The Hudson Mix Show. You can catch Hova at many venues throughout New Jersey & New York City.

BIO

Growing up in Northern New Jersey, Hova didn’t really listen to much house music. He typically enjoyed whatever was on the radio: Top 40/Pop, Classic Rock, Latin, and Country. It wasn’t until he went to college that he discovered his love for house music (as it was the first time he was regularly exposed to it).

Hova was, quite literally, always “on the aux” at pregames throughout college, but it wasn’t until he frequented the Jersey Shore bars, namely D’Jais in Belmar, that sparked his interest in becoming a DJ.

In 2018, he decided to make a mix for his friends to listen to. Once the mix was completed in January of 2019, he posted it on SoundCloud. The name of this mix is “The Garden State Pregame”, and it wasn’t long until he received likes, comments and reposts from people he did not know. The relative success of this mix encouraged Hova to take the next step and buy his first DJ controller (Pioneer DDJ-SB3) and watch countless hours of DJ tutorials on YouTube to teach himself the basics of DJing. Over time, his skills improved immensely.

In June 2019, he got his first gig at Cornerstone in Hillsdale, NJ. It went extremely well; so well that the bar made the most money it had ever made in one night. That same summer, Joe’s Surf Shack brought Hova on for a few sets that were greatly attended. Hova was invited back to Cornerstone to DJ on Thanksgiving Eve of the same year.

Just as Hova was hitting his stride, the COVID-19 pandemic hit. DJing (and nightlife in general) had halted to a stop. With so much uncertainty as to how long quarantine would go on for, Hova took advantage of this time to hone in and improve his skills even further by investing in online courses, new equipment and building his brand. In May of 2020, Hova and Friday Beers partnered up and released LickMix Vol. 1 (1M+ streams).

Hova moved to Hoboken, NJ in November of 2020, as COVID restrictions finally showed signs of becoming looser. Hova quickly became friends with many of Hoboken’s young DJs, including Angelo the Kid, James Jager, Trizzo and Olive Oil to name a few.

Being that the pandemic put bars and venues in financially difficult situations, they were hesitant to add any additional DJs to their rosters. Olive Oil invited Hova to play a few short sets at Green Rock over the winter, but beyond that, there were few gigs to go around. So, during the remainder of Winter 2021, Hova performed monthly on the Get Down DJ Group’s Twitch livestreams.

Finally, as restrictions loosened, Wicked Wolf invited Hova to play a set in May of 2021. Unbeknownst to him, this was a try-out to become a resident DJ. By the mid-way mark of his set, he was announced as the newest resident DJ of Wicked Wolf, joining a stacked roster of talented DJs including Angelo the Kid, BFine, Cream, and more.

Since then, COVID restrictions have been lifted and nightlife has returned to normalcy, opening many doors. Hova has now played at many venues in New Jersey and New York, including: HQ2, Premier, Harrah’s, D’Jais, Porta, Birch, Headliner and many others.
